TOPIC: "How Resolving Grief Can Help People Release Clutter and Get On With Their Lives”
SPEAKER: Tina Kopko, LMFT, Grief Recovery Specialist (Berkeley)

Tina will discuss how unresolved grief can exacerbate the hoarding behaviors of our clients, and make it even harder for them to let go of materials things. In this presentation, you’ll learn:

  •  How to identify unresolved grief;
  •  How to help a client name what they are grieving and their complex mix of feelings about losses from the past; and
  •  How to negotiate ways to make progress on your project without ignoring grief and loss;
  •  About the difference between grief counseling and the Grief Recovery Method;
  •  Some key things to say to a client to help them tap into a desire to recover, and
  •  Know where to find resources for grief recovery.

Tina Kopko is a licensed MFT and Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, with a private practice in Berkeley. In 2006, she earned her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a specialization in Transpersonal Psychology, from the Holistic School of Graduate Studies at JFK University in Pleasant Hill, CA. In her private practice, she works most often with clients on issues ranging from depression, anxiety, life transitions, healing from shame, developing one’s authentic voice, grief and loss, and life transitions.

Ms. Kopko is a Practitioner-in-Training of Somatic Experiencing® (Peter Levine), which is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress disorders. She is on track to becoming a Certified SE Practitioner by 2021.

In 2014, after a string of impactful losses, Ms. Kopko became a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist® through The Grief Recovery Institute®. She uses The Grief Recovery Method® in her 8-week grief support groups in North Oakland, CA, which are open to anyone grieving any type of loss. She can also facilitate this process in 1-on-1 meetings, either in person or online.
